Trace the development of societal/national pressures as well as prominent research/researchers connected to this area of literacy instruction across one of the last two decades (e.g. 1990-1999; 2000-2012). Describe the pressures — What were they? Why did they gain power? Include at least three key studies from the decade that had a significant impact on what happened in schools as well as large-scale assessment trends. Summarize the significance, supporting literature for these studies, design, analysis, conclusions, and limitations for each study. Describe the specific impact of these studies in schools, on teachers, and on students.
